Winter is Here! (at least the calendar says it is)

The calendar shows winter, but we are experiencing a bit of fall/spring right now. Temps in the 60s? I feel like I am in the wrong state!

I am getting ready for one of my favorite months for teaching. I am planning on teaching my little one about Penguins, Snow, and Mittens. So far, I have gathered ideas from Pinterest and a books list. We will see what I get after I have the books in my hands! I know I am always looking for booklists, so here you go.

Snowflake Bentley by (the movie)(or on Bookflix)
Snow- Blastoff Readers (companion book on Bookflix)

Snow by Uri Shulevitz
Snow by Marion Dane Bauer

Penguin Chick by Betty Tatham

I also checked out a few books on Martin Luther King, Jr. I purchased a book about Famous Americans from Scholastic that will go nicely with that unit.

Future plans and learnings to come. Stay posted!

Chester Raccoon

I love the Chester Raccoon books by Audrey Penn. I know The Kissing Hand is a wonderful book to share in the beginning of the year to help ease nervous feelings in our new students. However, I LOVE using it during my nocturnal animals study later in the fall. This is a perfect time of year to study forest animals. Check out my unit on Audrey Penn and the Chester Raccoon books in my TPT store.

And the winner is...

I have already eaten too much candy! My 5 year old had many opportunities to dress up. She loves Strawberry Shortcake. She wanted to be the one character that has no costume, Plum Pudding. We improvised and here are the results.

For the news we've all been waiting for... Mrs. Richling congratulations! You are the winner of a fabulous new... GIFT CARD! Thank you to all you dear sweethearts who follow. A special thanks to those who blogged about the giveaway on your blog!

Now since halloween is finished and we are moving to Thanksgiving, we are using one of our decorative pumpkins (non-carved) to do a little science experiment. I found this on Pinterest. I hope it works!

I found this on pinterest, but I couldn't find the blog to give credit to. I used this with my 5 year old yesterday. She remembered it today and it really helped. I have a Halloween themed letter reversal worksheet on my TPT store, check it out!
